Course Description

Our Crisis Management course will give you an understanding of how to prepare for and mitigate a crisis within your business – and the confidence to put the theory into practice. This includes creating a crisis team and ensuring roles and responsibilities are understood. Effective crisis communication is also covered together with the impact of social media. A number of simulation exercises are interspersed throughout the day to bring the learning to life.

This course is designed for senior management, departmental heads, crisis management team members and anyone else with a leadership role within the food industry.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required, but you should have a good understanding of your own business and its procedures and processes.

Learning Outcomes

By the close of the course, you will understand:

  • The definitions of incident and crisis, the benefits of having a well-prepared crisis management plan and the implications of failure in a crisis
  • How to build a robust, useable crisis management plan including key members and functions, categorisation and prioritisation of crises, situational awareness, directional thinking, simulation exercises and the purpose and process of review
  • How to communicate effectively during a crisis including preparation for media interviews and strategic social media communication.
  • The barriers to effective communication

Qualification / Assessment

There is a multiple-choice examination at the end of the day. Attendees will receive a Verner Wheelock Certificate of Completion (pending FDQ accreditation).
