Welcome to the June 2015 news review from Verner Wheelock
The weather has finally taken a turn for the better and we are now enjoying some real summer weather here in Skipton. The gardens here are in full bloom and we are busy providing lots of courses here at Broughton Hall, and in-house before everyone takes their holidays, and prior to the introduction of audits against BRC Issue 7 from 1st July.
Booking are now being taken for September when the ‘New Term’ starts again. If you are planning any training for later in the year, do plan ahead and contact us as soon as possible as the Autumn courses are already starting to fill up.
Course news – TACCP Workshop and Trainer Skills Refresher
Our first two TACCP Workshops are running in Skipton on 3rd and 27th July. This new course will help you to meet the threat assessment requirements of the BRC Issue 7. Visit our website for further information and more dates – as the July courses are now FULL.
Exam Results
The RSPH Level 4 Award in HACCP for Food Manufacturing is probably the most advanced course we offer and is consequently the most difficult to pass first time. We are therefore delighted for Joanna Chrzanowska from Ernest Jackson & Co who made the long trip up from Devon to North Yorkshire and has achieved a Distinction! This means she gained over 80% in both written papers which is a great achievement.
During June we ran the FDQ Auditing Skills and FDQ Supplier Auditing courses in Skipton and all delegates achieved excellent results. There was a 100% pass rate over the two courses with 42% in the Auditing Skills achieving a Distinction, and 56% in the Supplier Auditing exam.
Well done to Oscar Jedras, Production Manager from Sandwich King in Leeds for getting full marks in the FDQ Auditing Skills exam and to Simon Collinson, Technical Manager from Wagg Foods and our own Business Development Executive, Graham Lund for gaining full marks in the FDQ Supplier Auditing exam. Well done to you all!
Also, congratulations are in order for our own Sales & Marketing Executive, Jodie Stacey who embarked on her Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) qualifications earlier this year and has passed her first exam in Integrated Communications. Well done Jodie!
Harrogate Fine Food Show 2015
W
e spent a fantastic couple of days in Harrogate as part of the Deliciouslyorkshire exhibition at the the Harrogate Fine Food Show on 21 – 22 June.
This was a great showcase of real Yorkshire produce and provided some of the smaller, local food producers to present their wares to a wide range of buyers.
We also made some good contacts and got to know our fellow members at Deliciouslyorkshire.
During the show we ran a prize draw to win a £100 voucher for The Tempest Arms. We will be announcing the winner in the next few days – watch this space and come back to our blog to find out who won this fantastic prize!

25 year Anniversary
Established in 1990, Verner Wheelock is celebrating its 25 year Silver Anniversary in 2015.
To mark this occasion we are writing a blog covering some of the history of the company, and how it started. The first two parts are already available:

Staff News
On 26th June we were delighted to once again sponsor a hole at the Pearson & Associates Charity Golf Day. The day raised a total of £2,851 for Martin House Hospice. Well done to Paul and the rest of the team at P&A.
Those of you who have been on a course at Verner Wheelock in Skipton will know that ‘Bring your Dog to Work Day’ (26th June 2015) is not just an annual event for us. Usually, one of the office dogs (Tetley or Mabel) is on site to offer a friendly bark to greet out delegates on their courses. Mabel, who is particularly greedy, will even help eat your lunch (as Graham found out when his Toad in the Hole went missing from the staff fridge!)
