Welcome to our combined September and October update – keeping you informed of all the latest news from
September and October Training Courses
September is always a busy time for us and this year the ‘Start of Term’ was no exception – with a full programme of HACCP training, Food Safety and Auditing courses running in our training room in Skipton as well as in-house courses around the UK.
As well as a CIEH Trainer Skills and Practice course in Skipton, which was the final course for retiring trainer, Peter Bruty, who ran this course alongside Jan Wheelock for a number of years, we ran another two successful ‘Training the Trainer’ courses for North Yorkshire Fire Service. This popular course is ideal for those wanting to become a food safety trainer but is just as good for those aiming to train others in Health and Safety or any other subject.
Our trainers have again been travelling far and wide covering most areas of England and Scotland. Paul Bache ran a couple more Meat Managers Hygiene and HACCP courses for the SFMTA in Dunfermline and Renfrewshire and we delivered a range of HACCP, Food Safety and Auditing courses for Young’s Seafood in Annan and Livingston.
Auditing Skills, HACCP Awareness and HACCP Fundamentals seem to be the most popular courses at the moment, and we have provided them for a wide range of customers involved in milk and cheese production, packaging, meat products and ingredients as well as a Yorkshire-based chain of bars and restaurants.
Bookings are already being taken for 2014 so to secure your preferred dates for in-house training for next year contact us asap – don’t leave it too late!
Ethical Audits
Don’t forget, if you are a medium risk supplier, the major retailers will expect you to have an ethical audit every two years. We are already taking bookings well into 2014. Please contact us for a quote if you are required to have an audit during 2014.
For anyone who would like to know about the SMETA Ethical Audit process we are running a 1-day Ethical Trading Workshop on 24th March in Skipton. For more information or to book, please contact Claire on 01756 700802 or email claire.lennon@vwa.co.uk
Staff News
In early September our Training Support Assistant Jason Kearton completed the gruelling Tough Mudder event which took place in the grounds at Broughton Hall, Skipton where VWA’s training centre is based.
The 10-12 mile obstacle courses was designed by Special Forces to test the all round strength, stamina, determination, and camaraderie of the contestants – and also involves lots of mud, as demonstrated by Jason’s team on the before and after photos!
Jason (pictured far right on the top photo) has now become a permanent member of staff at VWA after completing his apprenticeship year, so well done on both counts!
Results
Food Safety and HACCP Results
We have had lots of great results in during September and October including the Level 3 Food Safety and Level 3 HACCP training which took place in Skipton. The majority of delegates passed on both courses with several on each achieving a Distinction!
Auditing Results
We ran our first Auditing Skills Certificate course sine its approval by FDQ and are delighted that everyone passed the course and was awarded an FDQ certificate. We will be running our first Lead Auditor course approved by FDQ in November.
Nutrition Results
We are delighted to announce that several candidates from the Diploma in Nutrition and Health received their exam results in September. We had a number of passes with Sarah Odling (Odling Bros.) and Sharron Layzellsmith (Betty’s) achieving a Credit and Elaine Watson from Allerdale Borough Council achieving a fantastic Honours pass. Good luck to those who are still to take the exam following completion of their assignments – it will be worth all the hard work!
