It’s Christmas! (Well, nearly!)

So… apparently it’s going to be a very close run contest for the Christmas number one spot this year between X-factor winner James Arthur and the Justice Collective (Hillsborough charity single). To be honest, I haven’t heard either song – my dial is firmly stuck on Radio 4 these days – but neither seems to be about Christmas, which is a bit of a shame.  Mind you, we should at least be thankful that Cliff Richard seems to have stopped churning out his own brand of Christmas singles.

We’ve been getting into the Christmas spirit here at VWA – tucking into mince pies, chocolates and biscuits kindly sent by various customers and singing along to Christmas songs. Tomorrow is our work Christmas lunch and we’re certainly getting that ‘end of term’ feeling now, so instead of a serious blog post today, we thought we’d have a bit of fun. Think of it as the equivalent of bringing ‘Snakes and Ladders’, ‘Ker-plunk’ or ‘Operation’ in to school.

Continuing the Christmas songs theme, your challenge (should you choose to accept it) is to think of as many Christmas songs as you can that could feature food, drink or food safety. The rules are that the title can’t already contain food or drink: for example ‘Marshmallow World’ or ‘Mistletoe and Wine’ and it must be recognisable as a Christmas song or carol.

These are our Top Ten – some of them are real groaners, so apologies in advance:

  1. Hark! The HACCP Angels Sing
  2. While Shepherds Washed (their hands)
  3. Fairy cake of New York
  4. I Saw Three Chips
  5. Take-away in a Manger
  6. We Three Kings of Auditing Are
  7. On a (Savoury) Flavours Day
  8. Peas on Earth/ Little Chicken Drumstick Boy
  9. We Wish You a Sherry Christmas (and a HACCP New Year)
  10. Frosty the Doughnut

Why not have a go? It’s actually much harder than you think!
