There’s far more to Yorkshire food than our famous Yorkshire Pudding (although that’s pretty great). As a county we produce some of the country’s finest meat, fresh produce, pies and pastries and drinks.
Deliciouslyorkshire, of which Verner Wheelock is a member, is a not-for-profit organisation which actively promotes the region’s locally-produced fantastic food and drink and supports producers, retailers and hospitality companies in Yorkshire and the Humber.
For the past 7 years, Deliciouslyorkshire has sought out the best the county has to offer in its annual Taste Awards and there has been no shortage of innovative new products to choose from, including goat ice-cream!
This year the awards are even bigger and better as for the first time the Yorkshire Post newspaper has joined forces with Deliciouslyorkshire to bring us The Yorkshire Post and Deliciouslyorkhire Taste Awards 2014. There are 20 different categories to judge from ‘Best Bakery Product’ and ‘Best Cheese’ to ‘Best Yorkshire Breakfast’ and ‘Local Food Hero.’ A new category for 2014 is ‘Best Yorkshire Pork Pie.’
Verner Wheelock is sponsoring the ‘Best Fresh Meat’ category, which is open to all butchers, producers and farm shops in Yorkshire and the Humber. Managing Director, Alison Wheelock, said “We’re very happy to sponsor the Best Fresh Meat category at the Deliciouslyorkshire Awards. We work with a number of Yorkshire’s meat producers and butchers providing HACCP and food safety training. In fact it’s quite fitting that we should sponsor this particular award since one of our trainers, Paul Bache, received an MBE for services to the meat industry. There is some fantastic meat reared and prepared in Yorkshire, so I wish all entrants the very best of luck.”
If you’re proud of your product, there’s still time to enter, however you’ll need to be quick as entries close on Thursday 14th August. Entries will be judged by a panel of industry experts including chefs, food writers, retail industry experts and BBC personality Nigel Barden.
