Thank you to all those who helped us celebrate 25 years in business!
We would like to say a big thank you to all those who took time out of their busy schedules to help us celebrate our 25th Anniversary here at Verner Wheelock. Along with trainers and colleagues, past and present there were a number of our clients in attendance including representatives from the following companies, to name a few:
- Betty’s and Taylor’s
- Farmhouse Potato Bakers
- Summit Foods
- United Biscuits
It was also fantastic to welcome representatives from out two main awarding bodies, Yvette Boland from FDQ, and Sara Shackleton from the RSPH who made a special trip up to Yorkshire from London.
The event kicked off with trainer Ruth Bell presenting a talk on ’25 years in the Food Industry’. This highlighted how much the food industry has changed over the years in terms of production procedures and systems, but also in the number of notified food poisoning outbreaks and the types of food we eat, and then looking to the future.

This was followed by a pictorial review of 25 years at Verner Wheelock Associates Ltd, presented by Jan Wheelock starting with the Food Safety Act 1990, through Butchers’ Licencing, our first prize winners, the move away from Bradford city centre to Broughton Hall near Skipton, and finally bringing us up to the present day with photos of current staff and trainers, and the company’s new look branding.
Just before lunch, Dr Verner Wheelock presented his thoughts on some new and alternative ideas on nutrition and gave a us a few snippets on Cholesterol/Statins, Type 2 Diabetes, Weight loss and Sugar
He believes that a healthy diet is one that includes the minimum of processed foods and a reduction in sugar and carbohydrates. Whereas in the past he would have advocated a ‘low fat’ diet he now states that ‘saturated fat is good for you’!
The venue for this years’s celebration was The Barn and Snug at The Tempest Arms.
These newly refurbished rooms also double as a training venue for our courses when our training facilities at Broughton Hall are in use.
Renowned for good pub grub in plentiful amounts, our buffet of cold meats, pork pies, salmon and salads with baked potatoes was no exception. Many thanks to the staff at the Tempest for putting on such a fantastic spread!
Unfortunately due to holidays and work commitments it was impossible for everyone to attend the day but it was great to receive messages of support for the future from former colleague at Verner Wheelock, Lynn Patterson (LP Associates), Ferenc Varga (Nestle) Keith Stamp (KSSA) and John Howard (Danish Bacon), who are all long standing associates of our company.
Here’s to the next 25 years!
