It’s Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event, where people across the UK hold coffee mornings and raise money for people living with cancer. In 2013, 154,000 people signed up, raising a record £20 million.
Verner Wheelock is pleased to be supporting the event this year and we are inviting friends, colleagues and clients to drop in for a cup of tea or coffee and a cake in return for a donation. Our Macmillan coffee morning will run from 10am – 1pm on Friday 26th September.
How did it start?
The event started in 1990, when a local fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning where people came along to meet and mingle – as they might ordinarily do – but donate the cost of their coffee to Macmillan in the process.
Its seemed such a simple, yet effective idea that was then taken up nationally. The first National World’s Biggest Coffee Morning was in 1991, when 2,600 people registered to hold coffee mornings across the country. Since then it has raised over £113 million in total for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Cancer is the toughest fight most people will ever have to face. As treatments improve, more and more people are living with cancer in their daily lives. The money raised at coffee mornings will help make sure no one has to face cancer alone.
How can you support the event?
To get involved you can either sign up and Macmillan will send you a lovely Coffee Morning kit, full of everything you need for a successful coffee morning. or just come along to our coffee morning or any of those running in your local area. Visit the Macmillan website to find your nearest event:
