Restaurant Review 2 – Le Caveau, Skipton #restaurantreviews

“A hidden gem!”

Scallops with bacon

Le Caveau is situated down a flight of stone steps below the Edinburgh Woollen Mill on Skipton High Street. For some reason none of us had been to this popular French restaurant before, despite its good reputation over many years.

After a drink in the bar area while studying the menus and blackboard choices we were ushered to our table for starters including scallops with bacon, garlic mushrooms with stilton to name just two choices.

The main courses chosen included chicken supreme, salmon and prawns wrapped in filo pastry with thai vegetables and a lime and ginger sauce, Gressingham duck breast with a port and cherry sauce, salmon with pui lentils. these were served with a range seasonal vegetables and we especially liked the grated carrot and swede with cream and nutmeg.

Strawberry Tian

How could we resist the dessert menu? We couldn’t! Tempted by brioche bread a butter pudding with Baileys, lemon and lime cheesecake, strawberry tian and sticky toffee pudding with cinder toffee ice cream! Everything is handmade onsite and the home made ice cream was to die for!

All in all, it was an excellent meal and we hope to return in the near future to try more treats from the menu!

Restaurant Review 1 – Emporio Italia, Skipton #restaurantreviews

“Excellent food, friendly service ….. a little bit of Italy in the heart of Skipton!”

Emporio Italia is tucked in at the top of the High Street in Skipton, across the road from the church. the restaurant is small but with two floors of seating inside and cafe style tables outside there was plenty of room for our party of 8 as well as several couples and smaller groups.

We sampled a range of dishes from the specials board including anti pasto, belly pork, mushrooms with goats cheese and caramelised onion starters, followed by some delicious pork and chicken and salmon dishes, all with an italian twist. We all opted for desserts including a superb chocolate, cherry and pistachio tart and, of course, a classic tiramisu, all rounded off with coffee or hot chocolate.

There was a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and the staff were quick and efficient. Prices vary depending on choices, but there is also an excellent value ‘early bird’ which offers ‘2 for 1’ on pizza and pasta dishes between 6 and 7pm during the week.
