Background

Deli Solutions, based in Clitheroe, Lancashire is part of the WBD group, which supplies high quality own label delicatessen foods to leading retailers including Asda, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. Products include top end free-range Spanish charcuterie and chilled meat and seafood tapas. The Group has won a number of Quality Food and Grocer Own Label Awards.

Training with VWA

Deli Solutions staff have undertaken a range of courses with Verner Wheelock Associates over the past 5 years. These have included Auditing, HACCP, Food Safety and online training. The training has been in response to new members of staff, to aid career progression for existing members of staff and to meet BRC requirements.

Delegates from all levels and departments within Deli Solutions have received training: from the General Manager , Technical Manager and Health & Safety Manager to Hygiene Team Leaders, QA Assistants and office staff. In addition, over 100 operatives have taken VWA’s online Level 2 Food Safety course.

Deli Solutions staff performed particularly well in the RSPH Level 3 Award in HACCP for Food Manufacturing and Auditing Skills examinations, with the majority achieving Distinctions.

Following VWA training, staff felt they had gained a much better understanding of food safety and HACCP as it related to their own environment and had the confidence to put this knowledge into practice. As a result food safety and food quality standards at Deli Solutions were even further improved. Likewise, the auditing courses gave staff the necessary skills to undertake internal audits in preparation for third party audits.

Deli Solutions’ training shows their commitment to upholding the highest standards.  Since completing training with VWA their HACCP team has expanded and they have a good internal auditing team capable of carrying out all internal auditing requirements of the BRC. In fact the company achieved an ‘A’ Grade in their last BRC audit.
