The third annual assessment of the major supermarkets has just been released by the national Consumer Council entitled “Short-changed on health? How supermarkets can affect your chances of a healthy diet”.

It was found that the level of knowledge by staff in stores was very low. For example, 5 out of the 8 gave the wrong information as to whether canned and frozen sweetcorn could count towards your ‘5-a-day’. The report concludes that staff training in health and nutrition is urgently needed if customers are to be given the correct advice.
